How do I get my Christmas Cactus to bloom?
How do I get my Christmas Cactus to bloom regularly? Do Christmas Cactus grow better in Clay pots? Mine hasn't bloomed in over a year. What am I doing wrong? It is in a Clay pot, I water it weekly. It gets daylight in a West window, not hot sun and plenty of nighttime darkness. It's growing but not blooming! Help!

More sun try a window to the east
When I had mine, it would get very cold (not freezing, though) where it sat, after it warmed up it, it would bloom like crazy!
Some bloom in November and some in December. I also agree that an East facing window is the best location. Hopefully, that will help yours bloom soon!
You need to let the plant dry down in between watering and water sparsely until you see buds. Once the buds show up then water a little more. They like good light but not a lot of hot sun. You may not get flowers for Christmas but you should get them for Easter.
Hi Sue, you could try this method, then once it blooms foolow the second one to keep it blooming
Dormancy: Many desert cacti bloom in response to a cool, dry, dormant period. During the winter, you should reduce watering to only about once a month—just enough to keep the plant from shriveling up—and move your cactus to a cool spot, around 50° F, that has plenty of sunlight.
are of Christmas Cactus in Bloom. Christmas cactus plants should continue receiving dark, cool treatment for at least 6-8 weeks, or until buds begin forming. Once buds have formed, it usually takes up to 12 weeks (or less) for blooms to appear. The plant should also be relocated at this time.
