I am installing base kitchen cabinets where there were never cabinets before. I have an electrical outlet in the way. What can I do besides move the outlet?

Im thinking you could cut out the back of the cabinet and leave it there. No different than a receptacle in an appliance garage in the kitchen. Or one in a microwave nook. Check your codes. Whats okay here might not be there. And make sure its GCFI. Maybe you could make use of it by using a pull out pop up shelf with an appliance on it like a blender or a mixer.

You can easily cut a hole in the back of the cabinet that would allow the electrical outlet to remain where it is. Understandably it can be a bit scary to cut into a new cabinet, but measure where the outlet would be both vertically and horizontally and you'll be fine. Good luck!

They sell covers at the hardware store.....you won't be able to use the outlet....but if you sell or decide you want one there....it still is.

Well, you are definitely going to have to Turn off the Panel Box. You can:

    A. Remove the Outlet from the box and put a Plate over it.

    B. Remove the outlet and the box to patch the Hole with Screen and Putty.

    C. Leave it there to power Under the Cabinet and In-Cabinet Lighting.

Either way you are going to need a new Outlet somewhere in the kitchen. And you gotta find a flashlight and turn off the Breakers.

If you are Lucky, there is a Junction Box already in Place in the Basement directly beneath this outlet (fed by the Wire from the Breaker) that leads to that Specific Outlet and any others too. If so, you can just Pull that Old Outlet Wire from the Junction Box to Run new Wire to a New Outlet by tap in to that Junction.

If not, to run a new outlet and wire will need to install a Junction box fed by the Wire that leads to that Specific Outlet from the Breaker.

Can you run an extension cord from the outlet in through the back of your cabinet so that you can use it for a can opener, small appliance or something something that is in the cabinet now? Otherwise you would have to move the outlet to a place that is usable.
