The first tree I have that bees flock to in early spring is an elm—possibly an American elm, but I'm not certain. Next is a cottonwood (Populus deltoides). No, Magnolias, Jasmine, mint, Berginot, lemon balm, orange lemon lime trees.
Flowers are better and not mess of leaves and dead flowers. Magnolias don't shed a lot of leaves but those seed pods can tear up a mower.
I"m not sure about bee forage, but around here, Mimosa trees tend to want to take over. Just our experience.
