We had the professionals refinish some 1973 oak floors and they look like the new ones that were installed in adjacent rooms.

You can sand and finish. You can sand, stain, and finish. Definitely not like in the video.
If you sand, stain and poly, yourself, please don't use the aforementioned video as a guide. It's unnecessarily tedious, rather sloppy, and definitely not paying attention to the finer points of floor care. One gets the impression that person did no research before initiating the project.
