What is it that you wish to do with the alternative to curtains or blinds? Block the sun? Use sun screens. Block the view? Use frosted vinyl or stained glass paint. Lots of options depending upon what you want to do.

in Bedrooms I like vinyl roll up blinds. They don’t collect dust. Are safe for kids and get the room really dark. Also affordable! They aren’t pretty but a balance at the top of the window hides them well. :)

higher end blinds have chains instead of strings. Cling privacy film is easy to apply and can make it semi-transparent. Add the film they put after market on cars.
