Tomatoes need full sunshine to grow, at least 6 to 8 hours daily. The roots can go 12 to 14 inches under ground. I space mine 2 feet apart from each other. You can start tomatoes from seed, or purchase plants from local garden centers. There are 2 types of tomatoes the determinant and non determinant. If you want to home can the tomato products, you want determinant types. They will ripen on all the plants and you get lots of tomatoes to make sauces with. The non determinant will ripen at various times, but you will have tomatoes until the frost hits.
