Mary....I do not follow rules when it comes to decorating. I think what you like and want to use is the way to go. I do try to balance but just add things you like, move them around and stand back and see the beauty in it! Good luck

First...use items you love. Next pick a focal point and place it slightly off- center (centered perfectly is boring) on the mantle. Then add items to the left and right of the focal point that have a similar look or theme. Avoid even numbers of things because they force us to mentally pair them up which is also boring. Don't be afraid to use color and remember that anything can be tweaked or changed! Don't fall victim to trends...it's YOUR home!
