Soak it in water and slowly separate it from the pot.

Ana has the right idea. If you soak the plant well you can then separate into 2 or more plants. Be sure to have plenty of fresh potting soil available and additional pots to replant. They are pretty hardy plants and will do well once replanted in larger pots.

Why do you think it needs repotted? which type of philodendron is it? hanging? upright? Mant of them do really well if kept rootbound they tend to grow out of top better instead of thru the roots. I have a huge split leaf philodendron(it's named Charlie) it's 42 yrs old and it's been in same pot 14" pot for about 15yrs.Also hanging one that is 12ft long been in same pot over 7yrs.Moist soil will stay compacted but be much heavier.Do it when it's dry if it's really large it will be much easier to manage/lighter weight. Depending on type of container it's in;Turn plant on side and hit pot or step on slightly to dislodge carefully turn over and repeat til it's free, cut off pot if you cannot get it out,or run sharp long butcher knife around inside of pot to loosen from edges then putting hand around plant base on top of dirt turn plant/pot sideways and slide out of pot directly into new pot(place a little soil in bottom of new pot). Stand up pot and center plant add soil evenly around edges pushing soil down firmly as you go removing air pockets is important.Provide excellent drainage water new potted plant thoroughly until water comes out of bottom shake pot some to remove air bubbles & settle soil. then let drain.keep philodendrons in very bright light no direct sun,dry thoroughly between waterings, give miracle grow water soluble fertilzer 2x year during reg.watering routine
