How do I find out what curtains work best for a small bow window?

I have a bow window in my kitchen and don't know what to put up for window curtains. I don't really like mini blinds. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The window in the middle is a little wider than the other ones?

  • Any type of window treatment you like, there are no rules. Vertical blinds, shutters, curtains, the choice is yours! I have always loved bay windows and always wanted one. Do you want visual examples?

Do you mean bay window? use tension rods/curtain rods and sheers or lace curtains, you could do it several ways; one lrg one across front of the whole window-3 separate ones in each window hanging down loose on bottom or use 6 rods two in each window 1 on top 1 on bottom so the sheers are tightly gathered in each of the windows this will give you more streamlined clean look you could use a mixture of sheers and regular curtains too for different look, sheers on side solid in middle(more privacy) or sheer in middle and solid on sides

You can put small curtains inside each piece and use a tension rod or one like this:https://www.walmart.com/ip/Smart-Rods-Twist-and-Shout-No-Drill-Adjustable-Window-Curtain-Tension-Rod/40719031

Decide what length you want for any curtain at that window. Then make/purchase curtain the width of the bay and thread on rod that fits inside the window casing or outside the casing. If choose inside casing, then may like curtain to be length of window only. If you like curtain flowing to floor, rod place outside frame is best.

Measure length of top (from rod is place ) to the desired length. Width of curtain is based on the fullness desired, usually double (2 panels) for general and 4 to 6 more fullness. Depends on preference, could cover curtain rod with a valance. If use valance, a double curtain rod is recommended.

Hi Mary. I found big tension rods on line that are used to hang curtains to divide rooms. I used this on a bay window. I put it up to the very top of the window and closer to the edge so when I closed the curtains the shelf or seat part would be covered and help keep the room warmer. Good Luck!

You could use two tiered cafe style curtains, triple width sheers, or crocheted cotton /country style curtains, if you prefer. Installing a heavier drape over sheers affords more privacy, when desired.

      Hi, Mary,

I like your idea! It brings the outdoors inside, which is so popular, currently.

You'd still have the option of heavier grommeted drapes on their own rod, if needed, for warmth.

Thanks, I love the idea as well. I came up with another idea too. I might try to do a tree of life in 3 sections on a hazy contact paper background. Since I live in the country, I never really need to have any drapes or blinds closed, except as you said, for warmth
