Hi Sherry, what a neat item! I have seen people cut the wood into shapes, like Christmas trees or states, playing up the slats. You could also cut squares and paint words on them to make unique signs for a rustic look.
Hello Sherry, You could paint it with chalk paint and hang it on the wall for a cool chalkboard.

Sherry, you could make a mighty big rolltop breadbox! But since you probably don’t need that, I have another idea. If you happen to have a laundry room and have or need shelving over the appliances, you could mount the roller part with the original grooved side, plus a plywood back and bottom. With any tiny shelves or drawers you don’t need removed, you would have plenty of room for detergent, softener and other cleaning products. Attach a cord to the original handle. That way, if the door rolls all the way up and you can’t reach it, you have the cord to use. Paint the roll-top cabinet to make or to stand out from your walls and appliances. Best wishes! ☺️
