Put newspaper or plastic sheet under the door. Put a small plastic bag around the handles by taping it. Then go ahead and paint your door.

Edith, it's much easier to pop out the hinge pins and remove it. Is there a special reason you can't?

Hi Edith. Open the door. Remove the handle/knob. Like Sal said, put something down on the floor to protect it from drips. I found using a small foam roller the quickest, easiest, and smoothest way to paint. It gets into all the nooks and crannies of the trim moulding which I painted first. Then each panel, finally all the outer portions. Keep a small flat artist brush handy for the corners of any trim.

  • Hi Edith! I can tell you how to paint your door with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint! :) To keep it on the hinges, simply tape off the areas you do not wish to paint and remove the doorknob if you'd like.

It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle:

Step one: Clean with White Lightning

Step two: Apply two coats of Slick Stick if the door is slick

Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint

Step four: Use Gator Hide for a water-repellent finish
