This link should help, Naila:

Hello Naila,
First clear and level the site. Cover in Weed suppressant fabric or thick layer of Newspaper. Layer of sand and then rollout grass and secure with long U shape pins. Then sprinkle fine sand all over and let sink in.
depending on the area you are wanting to cover, your preparation is key in making sure the area is level and drains very well. You will need to somewhat layer the materials underneath, as in, placing a layer of sand. That will allow water to further separate from the outdoor carpet. Then add a layer of very fine rock that is used underneath brick pavers, then another thin layer of sand to give a comfortable surface to walk on. That will give you excellent drainage and a comfortable surface. You will also need to use U shaped pins to secure it to the ground. Good luck, hope this helps.
