How do I paint a glass lamp base?

Well had the paint out last week working on a craft project. Got to thinking I have been wanting to update my bedside lamp so decided to paint my ugly old lamp shade. The lamp is rarely used so hated to put money in a new shade. Low and behold not bad! Now on to the lamp. It is green glass or ceramic. Spray or paint brush? What type of paint? Please don't say chalk. I am so over the chalk paint crafts. Doesn't look bad just doesn't match the new color scheme.

Hi Rae - I'd use a spray paint. Just be sure it lists glass on the can as a surface it works with. I'd do a few thin coats to avoid drips.

Hi Rae. Use a sandpaper for wet sanding and apply water with a spray bottle as you sand to the base. Sand lightly, but completely. Rinse and wipe. Now use any oil based paint you want - spray or brush. I used a gold paint and brushed sideways to give it a grass cloth effect. I forget how many carats the gold was, but it gave a lot of depth. The lamp turned out beautiful. Painting glass is such fun! Happy DIY'ing.
