How do I remove oil and latex paints from a few things in my home?

Citristrip is my go-to for stripping paint. It isn't super cheap, but it is low fumes and works really well. You do need to wear gloves and protect floors and other nearby surfaces. The product will stay active as long as it's wet (it's a gel sort of consistency), so paint on a pretty thick coat and then cover the coated area with plastic wrap or cut open plastic bags so it stays active longer. If you are working on a vertical surface, it is thick enough to cling okay, but you will probably have to do a couple applications because you can't put as thick a coat on a vertical surface. For something like the cast iron, you might need to scuff up the paint a bit with a carpet knife or steel wool so the citristrip has a place to penetrate.

Citristrip has a pleasant smell and works okay. Not sure about pricing. I scraped it off with a plastic scraper. Just don't let it dry, it's horrible to get off if you do.
