Think of all the things you have to be thankful for.

Go shopping for a child that otherwise would have no Christmas.

    Volunteer at a shelter.

Visit a nursing home and take a bag of small gifts (Dollar Store items like chapstick).

Drive around and look at Christmas lights.

Treat yourself to something you really want or want to do.

    Go to a Christmas pageant.

Visit people who will lift your spirits.

    Watch some Christmas movies.

Merry Christmas, I hope you find it.

Thank you Kathy for your heart warming suggestions, sadly for one reason or another I am unable to do the things you suggest, but it has made me think again about Christmas (Yes I am a Christian) but a tired one too. I should feel blessed that my family (even though I am a great grandparent a few times over) still want to come home for Christmas! I guess when it comes to it, I shall find the energy somehow..........Happy Christmas to you

Be thankful for the little things we take for granted. The ability to take a hot shower. A place to sleep. A auto to drive. Enough food to fill your tummy. We almost all have more then we need and there are some that aren't that fortunate. And one of the biggest things you could do is to share with those in need. It will make you heart happy!

Hi this is Peggy. I am sorry you are not catching the Christmas spirit. I was an R.N. and worked plenty of holidays in my 40 year career, so I know it is hard sometimes. Make ahead as much as you can so you can spend time with your guests. And most of all remember the true meaning of Christmas. I hope it turns out great for you and good luck. Hi Mogie,

You are right, I am lucky my family still want to come home for Christmas, only sometimes I wish I would be able to go to their homes instead, but with the jobs they do, they are always working over Christmas! never mind, I always manage to find the energy eventually........Happy Christmas.........

Thank you so much Mogie, Recipes and a plan of action, really helps me see the way forward...Happy Christmas to you.......

  • Truthfully, I am not a big Christmas person. Never have been even when I was a kid. Now mostly because of the over commercialism that the true meaning is lost in all the "should do / bake / attend parties / spend money you don't have or need to spend, etc." How about volunteer somewhere? Get together on a different day when you can all be off together, then cook up whatever strikes your fancy. I have no family so I have volunteered at a few places to help others. I will be alone on Christmas and will most likely grill something up (nothing special either), and eat it outside on the patio with the pets. And be very grateful and happy I have a roof over my head and food on the table.

Thank you for your reply, I'm afraid it is my age that's getting in the way this year. Ah well - Can't change that - so I'll go on till I really can't anymore!

You have a great Christmas - give yourself a treat too.............
