How do I reapply contact paper that is curling up around the edge?

I bought a fish tank for my husband for Christmas and the stand of the tank is covered with contact paper. On the door of the stand, the contact paper is curling up around the edges and rubs against the stand when opening and closing the door. I tried a few different kinds of glue hoping that I could glue it back down, but nothing has made it stick. We tried wood glue and super glue but it just curled back up.

What can I use, or what can I do to reapply the contact paper?

Try E6000 glue. should work. Apply the glue then tape down with blue painters tape until glue dries. Do not use masking tape or "Scotch" tape.

HI- Don't know about this, but perhaps heating the paper with a blow dryer, then "ironing" it flat? Other than that, you could get some washi tape or duct tape and cover the edges with that? The tape comes in a wild variety of colors and patterns you could match up or accent with. I found some copper washi tape that is great for edging anything!

  • Hi Katelyn, I know the frustration of working with contact paper. I'm no expert, I've just used it A LOT in my home and classrooms over the years. First of all if your surface is not perfectly smooth and clear of debris, it won't stick well. In cases like this, I've resorted to using a staple gun or thumb tacks to keep in place. As long as you door is thick enough to support them and you won't see the tacks. The only other thing I've done is wrapped the entire door, so that it comes back down around to the bottom and lays on top of the contact paper itself, since that is smooth...sometimes that locks it all in place. Hope that helps.

    Hello Katelyn,

Try warming up the backing with a hairdryer to soften the glue backing and try again. If not Heat up allover and remove and replace.

If none of these work, do I dare just trim the part that's curled over? Or would that cause it to become worse? I'm not too familiar with contact paper.

The part that is curled over is on the top edge of the cupboard door, so I thought maybe if I can trim that part off with a razor blade because I don't see that part of the door anyway?
