Must be 100% wool, or this technique will not work. I make felted dryer balls using this technique with yarn if I can't find a sweater.

Felting in the process of shrinking the fibers so they are tight. Fibers that can be used are wool, alpaca, cashmere, angora & even buffalo. So any sweaters made of these will work. The type of felting done for the red rug is using already combed and spun fibers in sweaters, they are just shrunk down & don't need to adhere to anything. Here's some good info on felting like this in washer or by hand then in dryer HAND https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4KTNIjc8wY WASHER https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_S_rYNkJG7E 2 ways to felt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRwsgfjNNQA Make sure you cut the strips of sweater bigger because of course you are shrinking them down
