How do I paint bricks?
I want to either white wash or paint my plain red fireplace bricks like “clinker bricks.” Scared to start playing around with it without knowing what Im doing because there’s probably no way to erase once paint is applied. Need guidance!

Hi Melody, I have seen where there is actually "Stain" for bricks. I'd do a bunch of searches, decide on the look you want and write down the directions for how they achieved that look. I think the stain would change the look without being so shocking. I went and looked at images of the "clinker bricks" and they are quite rustic looking. I would say you could randomly stain (or paint) black in some of the corners, then put a dark redish-brown on the rest. Maybe test some toward the bottom and just wait a few days to see if it grows on you and if you would like the whole thing done that way or in those colors. Like I said I'd just look around first and find a look that you like and that goes with the rest of your decor. Be brave, Good luck!
You've been given such a great advice already on how to paint the brick! You can also purchase a few bricks from Lowe's or Home Depot to practice on! That way you'll have your own technique down when you go to paint your fireplace bricks.
