How do I know if my microwave is safe to use?
I have a microwave that works perfectly but the interior finish has come off in places. Is it safe to continue using?

Hi Dj,
We have the same problem on the lower ledge of the door of our microwave. It rusted, we live where it is humid (Maryland) and think this contributed to our situation. As yours does, it works perfectly. I am not concerned with it because it worked just as well when it was intact. I would be concerned if I saw sparks or heard strange noises coming from it or smelled smoke or had flames, so far, so good, it is just cosmetic.
Hi Dj, this is Peggy, Sorry to hear your microwave is pealing off inside. Here is some information for you. Be safe Microwave - Cavity Repair Needed Due to Arcing, Chipping, Peeling ...
If the coating is actively flaking or paint is peeling anywhere inside the oven cavity (including under the turntable) discontinue the use of the microwave and replace it. The microwave is not repairable. ... No lead or other toxic materials are added to the cavity coating material used in our microwave ovens.
Dj Johnson, thank you for asking this question! I noticed about 6 months ago the the metal around the window on the inside of our microwave door was rusting and paint was flaking off. I told my husband I thought it was no longer safe to use. He told it was fine and not to worry about it. I have continued to worry. I'm thinking it should be discarded.
Thank you for all your comments. I think my air fryer is going to get a good workout until I can purchase a new one! Sound like enough doubt exist to warrant discontinuing use.
I actually use my new Ninja Air Fryer more now than my Microwave. The trick use very little oil on fresh veggies, on frozen none at all. It takes a little while to learn how to use, but the food items come out tasting crisper, less oily and healthier.
