I would consult with a professional regarding this blanket. It is a very old blanket and a family keepsake and trying to clean it yourself may end up with unhappy results. Check first with your local dry cleaner. If they won't do it they may know a professional preservation shop. I recently inherited a quilt from the early 1900's. The material was very delicate because of it's age. I am in the process of trying to have it cleaned and preserved.

Hi Zoe! I would be afraid to attempt to clean an heirloom myself, unless it was my only option. Sometimes local museums can give a referral for a professional for delicate materials.

Looks hand embroidered. Soaking in woolite might work but I'd recommend a dry cleaner.

Don't take to dry cleaners.Check with local antique dealers, museum, historical society for info. on reputable place that can do this with out ruining it. It needs preserved after cleaning kept in acid free box or something. It's an heirloom needs special love.I'd leave it dirty before I gave it to someone or tried to clean it myself for fear of ruining it.The colors of threads may bleed onto blanket or the wool itself shrunk

I agree with Lynn, this should be taken to a place that can actually preserve the blanket. Do your research on line and find a good antique store.
