I have recently bought a wee wooden box that I would like to revitalise as it looks as though it's badly water damaged and perhaps still is holding water within? Please can you help me?

    Hello,

    Charming box!

If you feel it’s waterlogged still -allow it to dry out before refurbishing. Sometimes a wax or lemon or Danish oil can be a great solution.

How are you hoping to finish it?

do not 'force' drying -- you could cause cracks in the wood ... put in a cool room, out of the sunlight, but with good air circulation. if the lid doesn't come easily off, don't remove it -- could 'warp' if truly 'soaked... would be better to allow to dry in place ... IF the lid comes off easily, ( not swollen with fluid ) set it on a flat surface.

Don't put in sun to dry it may crack, dry slowly so it doesn't crack. Maybe it's not wet from water but been oiled, waxed so it just feels heavy & wet.Maybe it held oil, balm,or wax & it has soaked into the box. Does it open, is that a lid,do you know what the wood is or if it has any finish on it,is it raw wood??
