Hi Debbie, Here is a link where other hometalkers put fabric on their walls using liquid starch. It is great for renters because you can just peel it off when you leave and it doesn't hurt the wall at all.

Thanks so much Rebecca...I assume it would be quite lightweight material that should be used...

    Hi Debbie,

What a great inexpensive idea from Rebecca! The best parts are it is removable and no damage. So many terrific patterns.

Debbie, paint it first, then hang photos, or art work. Hanging wall paper is a job, you might want to paint the bottom part of the wall, and hang paper the rest of the way up. You could also use border paper around the top and paint the wall. You could also paper just that wall. Aloha!

I once covered a wall using torn Kraft paper, (available in rolls at HD or other big box home improvement stores) and diluted Elmer's glue-all. It resembled worn leather patches when it was finished. It looked great in the room I put it in. Search 'torn paper wall treatment' if that sound like something you would be interested in.

Hanging wallpaper can be tricky, I hung it when I was in between jobs with a friend who had her own business. Back then it was good money though. Anyway, I have found a wicker and a metal partition or room divider at resale stores very inexpensive and put them against a wall or in front of windows before. Also, I hung lightweight decorations on them.

I've seen where people use doors and lean against a wall and hang pictures on it, etc. Just suggestions that hopefully can get you going. I'm sure it will look great whatever you end up doing.

I used Kraft paper to redo a worn desktop and it's beautiful. Because I crinkled the paper, it looks like marble. I used Modge Podge and then water based Polyurethane on top. It's perfect and it was really cheap to do.

I don’t know how inexpensive they are but, you could put up panels of bead board, add a very simple straight board for molding paint upper half, add art. Mirror, or removable Wallies!

I'm not sure if this would give you the look you want but light-medium weight material can be hung from Command hooks. Of course those hooks do not make holes and are completely removable (except on wallpaper) This method won't give you a smooth look like some of the other suggestions. It's more loose but it really can look quite nice IMO.

Either make a frame for fabric and staple it on or stick it directly to the wall using Modgepodge.
