Do you collect jars? For some reason I seem to so I was ready to create a Santa jar for a challenge I was participating in. The topic was Christmas in a Jar.

For this project I decided on a jar that has straight sides that narrows up to the mouth of the jar. After making this important decision I was ready to spray paint it. I sprayed the jar and the lid a nice Christmassy red. It took several coats for good coverage, making sure to turn in different directions. Leave the jar for a couple of days to allow the paint to cure.

In the meantime I looked in my closet for a belt, a black narrow belt that is perfect for Santa. The belt was cut to fit around the jar. Don’t worry if the holes don’t line up with the buckle. Use a punch to create a hole so the belt can be buckled. Take E6000 glue to glue the belt to the jar.

I found some black buttons in my button box. I glued two above the belt and one below the belt.

Use 100% cotton balls for the “fur” around the side of the lid, top of the jar and the bottom.  I used tacky gel glue to adhere the cotton balls to the jar.

Now this will make a cute gift filled with hot cocoa or dry ingredients for a cookie mix. If that is what you do I recommend putting the cocoa or cookie mix in a plastic bag and then into the jar since it would be difficult to wash it with the cotton and belt on it. Doesn’t it make a cute way to give as a gift?
