Magic eraser does it for me every time. Grandkids seem to find the permanent markers every time they want to draw. When they are finished, I give it to them to clean up. Then I wipe dry and polish it.

Hello, try some rubbing alcohol, it should remove the marker
Try writing over it with a dry-erase marker and then wipe if off.
Rubbing Alcohol should do the trick, do not use acetone as it will mar the varathane.
