How can I get my amaryllis to bloom?

I’ve had it a year and no bloom so I cut it back. It is a healthy plant.

Well I guess I ruined it for this year as I did cut about half the leaf stalks off. Should have asked before I did it. Now what can I do to keep it healthy?
