A pillow cover is an easy and inexpensive way to update a throw pillow. Learn how to sew a simple envelope cover for an outdoor pillow, and use this technique to make indoor pillows as well.

To make an outdoor pillow start with a pillow insert that is weatherproof. For an indoor pillow use any pillow insert, or a throw pillow that's already in your home.

Watch this video for all the details.

A few tips for sewing an outdoor pillow. Use weather resistant outdoor fabric. This will hold up to all the elements. This is thick fabric so press your hems into place and pin before sewing. This will ensure a solid stitch.

When sewing your pillow cover (be sure to watch the video for all the details) be sure to backstitch at the ends to really secure the pillow cover.

I use envelope pillow covers outside and inside for every season. They can be easily changed out and they are really inexpensive.

I have had these on my deck for a full summer. They did not fade, repelled water and still feel soft and comforable.

Be sure to watch the video for all the details and start sewing your own pillow cover!
