Small Shelves for Essential Oils, Spices, and Other Small Items

My sister recently asked me to make some small shelves for her essential oils. There are many ideas out there, but these are super simple and only require a few inexpensive items.

-long cabinet pull (I used 12”)

-2x4 board

-paint or stain

-hardware to hang shelves (I used keyhole hangers)

-long screws if your pull doesn’t come with them

You will also need a drill with bits

and a screwdriver.

**The best part about these shelves, is the price mostly depends on the pulls you use. I was able to find these online for a couple bucks a piece. We had leftover 2x4 and rest of the supplies on hand already, but if you have to buy a board, you can buy a 2 foot section for less than a dollar!**

Start by cutting, sanding and staining your board. The pulls I used had a total length of 12 inches, so I cut the boards at 13 inches. Depending on your pull style, you can cut the boards to the same length as the pull, or give a little extra space on each end.

Mark and drill holes for the pull and hanging hardware.

The process for your hanging hardware will depend on the size and type you use, but this is what a keyhole hanger looks like when installed.

You want the pull to be as close to the front of the shelf as possible without sticking out over the front, and making sure the screws have enough wood in front that the wood will not splinter. Our pull sat flush with the front of the shelf, which put the screws about 3/16” back from the edge.

Hang it up and enjoy!

This style will fit two rows of larger essential oil bottles, or more of the small ones. It will also fit two staggered rows of small spice containers.

Very Cool. Gotta make a bunch of these. I've got essential oils, craft paints, etc. They could be used for anything. Spices on a cabinet door. Even on the side of a cabinet. They look too good to hide. Super great share.

I love this!! Was thinking this would be great in our small bathroom, to put lotions on vs cluttering the sink area.
