What stain & sealer should I use on a homemade butcher block counter?

What would you suggest using for a stain and sealer on a homemade butcher block counter ?

    Hi Rose, it depends on what you plan to do with it. If you want to be able to cut on it I wouldn't recommend a stain at all but just a food safe butcher block oil.

    If using it as a cutting board is not in your plans then you can stain it any color you like and then I would use at least FOUR coats of a poly acrylic sealer.

    I agree. to make it food safe use butcher block oil or food safe mineral oil. If you plan to use cutting boards you can satin it and seal it with a water based poly.
