Cheap and Easy Way To Organize Fabric Scraps
Over the years of doing room makeovers, I have accumulated a large assortment of fabric scraps. I like to keep them in case I need them for other projects like sprucing up a shelving unit or adding interest to panel doors. But I've never been very good at keeping them organized, so I could find the bits that I wanted when I needed them.
They always ended up in a big pile in my craft room.
So I decided to do something about it...organize them by color on my shelves where I could see them.
The first step is to measure the width and height of your shelf.
Then cut a piece of foam board into rectangles that are an inch or two shorter than that.
Lay the foam board on top of the fabric so that it meets the bottom edge and wrap the loose end of the fabric around it. If it's a big piece of fabric you will want to fold it first so that it's only a few inches wider than the width of the board.
Then keep flipping the piece of foam board over and over until you have wound all of the fabric around it.
Use an upholstery pin to pin the end of the fabric to the foam board.
Then fold the extra fabric width over the other side of the foam board and use a couple of pins to hold it down.
Then you end up with some neatly folded fabric that you can put up on your shelves like a book. Which actually looks really pretty in my craft room and makes everything easy to find.
You will want to make sure that this is not stored in direct sunlight or the fabric will fade.
