  • Mine did not even last 3 months and the surface was spoilt. I dont know if i did it wrong but I would not recommend it from experience.

Mine in the kitchen lasted a couple of years before they started looking rough (we used eggshell paint onto bare wood) but the paint did start coming off in the end. We were using second hand furniture for economy reasons so it worked as a short term solution :)

  • The longest I've seen one last without a chip is a year. It really depends on how often the counter is used.

Patricia...I have heard as other ladies about a year. Have wanted to do mine but with all the work involved I hesitate because one year is not that long!

Mine lasted many years. First I lightly sanded with my hand sander. I cleaned the surface, let it dry, then painted my base color with latex paint. When it dried I used several colors of acrylic paint and ASR’s sponge to replicate granite. After this dried overnight I applied about 4 coats of varathane.

I did mine 3 years ago over arborite and it is holding up very well, no peeling or flaking.

I prepped very well, sanding the arborite to get some of the shine off and sealed with a high adhesion primer. Painted with black latex and then used silver sparkle craft and white sparkle craft paint to make it look like marble. This was the most time consuming part but worth the trouble.

Then put silver sparkles on top and applied 4 coats of good varnish and it looks great, people think I had an actual marble countertops installed. It shines and sparkles and is so pretty especially in sunshine.

It was a lot of work but prepping is key along with using premium paint products.

I did mine..its been a year and a half now.....THE ONLY thing I would change is do a darker color. Finally found that barkeepers friend works on cleaning the stains. Its a good temp fix until I can find something else! See my post on hometalk
