Good step by step instructions with pics to help explain:
There's some fab posts here on Hometalk about creating a vegetable garden Victoria
There are books on companion planting, ie carrots love tomatoes is one. The seed packets will give you good info as well, how deep to plant the seeds, how long it should take to maturity, ie when to pick or harvest,
ertian plants will do better in a certain soil acidity.. that requires a soil testing meter. Your county e tension office may have a master gardener on call. They have a wealth of information that is practical for gardens. To be a master gardener, you have to donate hours helping wanna be gardeners, and a few of us who have moved from one planting zone to a new one.
I’ve never had luck with a vegetable garden until this year. I planted an Urban Bloomer from Keter and was able to get tomatoes and basil this year. You can see my garden here: http://momhomeguide.com/raised-patio-garden-pinterest-challenge-blog-hop/
Keeping it simple is so key and I highly recommend raised beds. So let's begin with a simply DIY build and then I'm going to recommend my book because it takes you through the entire process without skipping steps.
(Smaller raised beds are easier to maintain.
