How can I add window curtains to this window?

Did your sweet husband give you any ideas about what would make him happy? I'd suggest talking with him before you decide. :) Vertical blinds would blend into your background rather than cut across it. You could use drapes - either hanging one from each side covering the side windows or you could move them out to the side of the window so all three panes show. You could also hang them higher than the top of the window. Another idea would be to bring the drapes together in the center of the middle window at the top, then use a drape hook or rope to secure the sides so that your drapes create what would look like a upside down v ( /\ ) then the bottom of the drapes could fall to the floor. If he wants a more open look, there are vinyl panels that will cling to the glass. Some will give privacy but let in the light, others are just pretty patterns. Then there are drapes with a drapery rod that can be opened or closed depending on whether you want light or privacy. Some of them come with double rods to add a valance at the top or sheers behind the drapes. One more type that he might like could be a roman shade. I'd suggest you take your time and look at various types to find just the right one for your rooms. Here's a start from JC Penney's, but there are many more ideas available. Wishing you the best.

I would keep the blinds for light control and hang drapes from a rod that is placed high on the wall, just under the ceiling. Choose a rod that is long enough so you have a couple of feet on either side of the window. When you open the drapes, leave them so they are just covering the frame on the side of the windows. They will make your window look much larger.

Did DH say what he would like? Keep the blinds and add a curtain rod and add drapes or curtains. I go with Julie's suggestion. If you have pets or kids, make sure they are washable too. My living room drapes are silk and while they are beautiful, the dry cleaning bill twice a year isn't cheap.

You could use sheers on each end of the rod for a lighter, open look. Look for a color close to the color on your wall. Hang them closer to the ceiling.

Take your rods up above the windows, almost to the cieling. Long curtains or panels will make your cieling appear to be higher. If there is money in the budget consider using a wooden shade (also hung high) under the curtain panels. Your curtains need not move on the rod (dummy panels) your privacy and light blocking will be handled by the wooden shade. When you put your shade up leave it so the top of the window is just barely covered. This will create the look of a taller window. Hanging dummy panels creates vertical lines at the windows. This is also an inexpensive way to dress a window because you don't have to cover the entire window with fabric, which is where things can get costly. Buy your curtains first so you know where to hang the rod. With 7 foot cielings you are right there at 84 inches, you may need to take them up an inch or two. If they have a rod pocket, sometimes you can just fold the top over and creat a new header/rod pocket. If you go with a decorative rod and grommet curtains you will have to hem the bottom.

Hi Nancy if you want to keep things simple I would leave the rod where it is and hang shorter curtains maybe 63 inch not sure the length of the window since you have blinds privacy should not be and issue because you can tilt the slats so you can't see in but still get some light
