If you can think of any ways to avoid this sometimes crippling affliction, you’ll be my life-saver! Panic attacks feel much like heart attacks and you cannot breathe properely and your chest gets tight and then you have a very difficult time breathing SERIOUSELY. It can be very scary at times. I would like to create an illusion if you will making my tiny apartment look ax bug ad possible. I live in an apartment building and if I had my way I would open up the bedroom walk and any other wall just to give it a larger effect but the landlord would no don’t in my mind ever go for that as it certainly wwould not feel like the walls are closing in on me which terrifies me. I don’t understand why it cannot be accomplished as long as you know where your studs are etc etc etc, someone who knows what they are doing you knowanyway. once Again my DIY’s you truly are my saviours abd my gratitude is Over-flowing as usual when I hear back from so many of you, you absolutely make my whole world and life worth living!GOd Bless You all truly from my heart to yours!Laurie Lee

Hi Laurie; The best way to make a tiny room appear larger is to paint the walls white and then install a couple of tall mirrors on a couple of the walls. The mirrors should be the full-length mirrors that can be purchased at most places like Walmart, etc. When you look at a wall that has mirror on it, the mirror will make it appear there is a hallway running away from the room and thus it stretches out the size of the room. Good Luck!!

Mirrors placed perpendicular to windows (rather than directly across from them) will bounce more light. If you can, try placing a long mirror behind and above a sideboard in your dining space .The end of an internal hallway and in your bedroom, on a wall adjacent to a window are other good places for mirrors, to reflect light (whether from windows or ceiling lights).

Sheer curtains will make you feel less claustrophobic. If privacy is not a concern, use them alone. Otherwise, mount them on a separate rod and place opaque curtains with grommets in front of them, for night time use. If window designs are tall, use cafe style curtains, if that would work for you.

Lighter color rugs, pillows, towels, furniture and glass top tables with metal, thinner legs will make floor space appear larger. Avoid furniture with skirting and bed skirts.

Use floor and table lamps with white or ecru colored fabric shades, and more powerful LED lightbulbs with 2800-3400 Kelvin ratings (located on the package).

Hi Laurie, so sorry about your claustrophobia. Besides painting your rooms in light (soothing) color, you might want to paint all the rooms the same. Watch the scale of your furniture and if possible decrease the number of pieces. You might want to put largish prints of outdoor scenes, like forest or ocean. It can be soothing and give your eyes a place to rest. Having good lighting can be helpful too, not eyepiercingly bright or dim. You might also like to use mural wallpaper on one of your walls. Hope this helps

I Repainted it a very light but a hint of warmth that I n others now like with my pictures, furniture n rugs since it’s neutral n goes with Everything ! The only way to tell there is color on my walls in every room is to look where color

is next to the ceiling I painted Ultra White to make all rooms appear larger.

If Anyone is interested in the color I painted

I have to agree with the majority of the comments above. Light neutral Colors. Ceilings to match. Anytime there is a color contrast difference will make things seem smaller.

Do not forget about lighting. More like the better. If there are ample windows, also change their color scheme to light and neutral. Out with dark things in with neutral off-white. I hope you can find a remedy suitable for you.
