You should ask questions separately as they each require different answers from different people with different expertise.
Hi Sheila! As far as the shrubs go, I'd recommend camellias, azaleas, or boxwoods. They're all pretty low maintenance. The camellias and azaleas will bloom, but the boxwoods are evergreen. Choose the ones that suit your taste. Good luck!
Shrubs, visit your local nursery for that answer. Gas,logs require a plumber. On concrete pad, look at you tube for tutorials on how to install a concrete slab to see if it's a project you can handle.
You failed to mention your location and soil conditions, water restrictions, height and width preferences, etc., but some cypress and dwarf blue spruce shrubs are very low maintenance, and evergreen. Hollies and some Euonymous do well if you have no problem with deer, in which case you need to spray with Liquid Fence Concentrate.
Acuba does well in zone 6 and higher, but needs some partial shade.
Barbery comes in dwarf varieties, but is prohibited in some areas of the U.S.
Kelli's response re: your other questions is accurate and informative.
