What's the easiest, safest best way to clean them?

  • Put an old tea towel in your kitchen sink, stack the grates in the sink. Add dish liquid and hot hot hot tap water to cover. Pour in a cup of white vinegar. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of baking soda over the top. Let soak overnight. Wash and dry in morning and done! I have a plastic wash tub and I set mine out in the sun. Can be done in a couple hours or less if not super grungy. Once clean, wash one a week when doing dishes. You will most likely never need to soak again unless something spills over.

Keep that stove, I guarantee it is better than anything they make today.

I had a stove like that. I used to just put them in the sink with some detergent and hot water to soak a few minutes, then scrubbed them with a plastic scrubby. Be sure to protect your sink with a rubber mat or dishpan, or an old dish towel.

Hi Dorothy. I'm Cindy. Put the grates in a crock pot and add hot water. Add a squirt of Dawn dish soap. Set it on low and let it go overnight. In the morning, just wash them with a scrubby. They will turn out nice and clean. For the stove, sprinkle baking soda everywhere and spray white vinegar on top of it. Let it set for an hour. It will bubble up. Then wipe clean with a clean damp cloth. Repeat if necessary.
