How do I touch up a small night stand with a damaged finish?

The bottom portion of this night stand has what looks like water damage? How can I make it look better without stripping and refinishing the whole thing? Can I just put polyurethane stain “dabbed” on the lower damaged portion? Or maybe a touch-up pen for furniture?
Hi Barb. You could try a mix of 3/4 cup canola oil and 1/4 cup vinegar. Mix together, wipe on, let sit, buff with a dry cloth.
You could try to touch up with stain and the finish, but I think a better look would be to use a dark base color and then Cream Colored Chaulk Paint over. Let dry slightly and then sand areas for a farmhouse distressed finish. I'd also change that handle for a crystal one, could be really pretty! Good luck.
Try Old English Scratch Cover once you have thoroughly cleaned it.
I would lightly sand and then use Old English. Once dry, try a coat of wood floor polish on the whole piece.
I always touch up my worn furniture with min wax stains. Make sure to get the color that matches the original finish the best, sample it on scrap board first. I even have had the hardware store do sample swatches on a stir stick first, bring home to compare then go back to purchase the best match. All you do is "follow directions" on the can for the worn areas and I'd cover the entire stand for a total refreshed finish.
