How do I get rid of flies in the dirt?

Re pot with fresh soil, be sure to wash the roots out under the kitchen sink gently. Doesn't matter if the soil was old or not, somehow it became contaminated. In my case, I took plants from a neighbor that were apparently infested. I had to repot over 50 houseplants.

This worked for me -- put some water in a white plate, add a few drops of Lemon Joy dish washing liquid, sit near your plants and when the liquid has caught several of the flies, empty and repeat. Can you use a white bowl? Does the plate have to be white? Can you use something besides Lemon Joy? I don't know -- this was the recipe I found, I had the Joy and it worked. Hope it works for you.

I have used Systemic insect killer for plant insects. I have bought mine at the local Earl May Store or at Ace Hardware....or anywhere that sells garden supplies. You put it in the soil, water it and somehow it leaches up into the leaves and will kill the insects flying/eating/sitting around. I always treat my plants with that 10 days before bringing them in the house....so far I have had good luck.
