How do I remove a stain from carpet?

I have a stain in my carpet and I don’t know what it is and I can’t get it out with my steam cleaner.

I would try some Resolve stain remover first. Get the stain wet with the Resolve, wait for about 10 minutes, and start blotting. Perhaps it will come up. Recently--quite by accident--I removed some rust stains from my carpet with an enzyme cleaner for pet stains/odors!

It looks like hair dye of some sort of colorant but may be from a leaky pen too or even a squished stink bug. Nice carpet color selection by the way. Anyways as it may be dye or ink, but sure ain't paint or blood, it is likely going to need a solvent to remove or lighten it. Such as: Nail Polish Remover. So...as that may not be promising let me tell you a story about how I got out of trouble for a stained carpet at age 15vwhen my parents went away.

A.k.a. How to cut a piece of carpet up from beneath your couch to cut this piece out to glue the unstained piece down.

    A. Move your couch

    B. Measure the size of the stain.

    C. Using fabric scissors or a utility knife, cut the stained part of the carpet out.

    D. Using fabric scissors or a utility knife, cut the part of the carpet out that was under the couch, and this will be the patch.

    E. Glue in the patch into the area where the stain was and walk on it a bit to make it stick.

    F. Move the couch back where it was. Voila. The Stain is gone. Takes 12 to 8 minutes to do.

Well I wish you good luck Marla. I was looking at the stain again out of curiosity, and it may also be: oil. If you do figure out what it is and how to get rid of if though, feel free to let me know. It's always good to know.

It looks like a purple tint. If it is a wine or some type of berry stain, try peroxide and white vinegar, then blot.

Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of Dawn dish soap, and fill with water. Spray area liberally and let soak for 5-10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry towel until stain is removed. Some carpet stain removal products can be of great benefit for combating many types of carpet stains.
