Have you thought of using transfers to make special pillows for kids/grandkids? If the pillow cases are solid colored this works great. You print them off on transfers (available where office supplies and home office supplies are sold) and iron them on. This also works for old but good T shirts, just sew the openings shut on them.
We used to paint on them Halloween scenes and used as,trick or treat bags.
Store quilts.

What about cutting them shorter, sew the bottom and with what you took off make handles.
Some charities make dresses out of pillowcases for children in I think Africa. You could look into doing that.
