How can I insulate my cold floor?

Our floor is cold there is no insulation there. We have pieces of styrofoam any suggestion how we can secure the pieces from underneath, since it's foam cannot use nails. Access is easy from basement. Thanks for any and all suggestions that are useful

I've read that insulating the basement ceiling is not a good idea. It can cause mold and plumbing problems. Here's one of the articles I found:

Not sure if you are trying to insulate the actual floor or a crawl space. If you use washers and screws and screw to the floor joists it will work for you. If it is a crawl space, fiberglass insulation placed between the floor joists and then put a layer of blue Styrofoam over that or a layer of 4-6 mil plastic which you staple to the floor joists.
The first issue I would address is the temperature of your basement and whether or not it is within 15 degrees of your home.

WRAP your Styrofoam in cloth (an old bed sheet or something). Hot glue the corners like a Christmas present. Then hot glue the whole thing into place where you want them. Then, with a piece of straight molding, screw (small screws) a piece or two on the beams on each side of the Styrofoam. Illustration below: (Click on picture to enlarge)
