How do I repair brown spots on our law?

Over the past year we have had an increase of dry brown spots invading our lawns throughout the neighborhood. How can we correct this exhausting problem?

The brown spots could be caused by Chinch bugs which eat the roots of healthy grass. You will need to apply something like Malathion, if it is still available as it is toxic, to kill the bugs. Scratch the bare spots with a lawn rake. Top with fresh soil and reseed.
Figure out the cause first of all. Get down and smell to see if it's urine. Do soil tests of the spots. At some point, weed eat all the dead grass away to bare earth. Loosen the soil, add top soil, then either grass seed or grass plugs. Keep well watered. Later you need to fertilize.

Extension office told us to use Sevin on cinch bugs...have to do it one time, and other time a month later and then the next spring. He said they were hard to get rid of and he is right....
