How can I build a fireplace with vent free logs?
I WOULD LIKE TO BUILD A FIREPLACE WITH VENT FREE LOGS. HAVE YOU GOT ANY IDEAS? I DO WANT IT SAFE. IT WILL ONLY BE USED WHEN OUR POWER IS OFF. THANKS IN ADVANCE. MARIE

Fireplaces lose heat all the time, not just when in use. You would do better to get a pellet stove. They can be right up to a corner or wall and do not need any special preparation to put one in. Hope this helps. They are sold at home improvement stores like Menards, Lowes, etc

Debker offers good advice. I will add that moisture (a by product of any combustion) can be an issue, especially in a small area.
