Check your local building codes. In our area we close all vents in Oct - Mar timeframe and open them the rest of the year. The vents help allow moisture out of the crawl space.

King Country, WA? I so, you don't the low temps like we do in Benton County, WA (Tri-Cities). Closing vents can help keep pipes from freezing and reduce heat loss through the floor. Check with local builders or neighbors to see what they recommend. All the vents that I have seen have either a flapper or Styrofoam plugs.

  • It will depend on your house and building codes for your area. If there are some that are blocked, it's important to get those un-blocked otherwise you could end up with moisture or mold issues.
