How can I redo a kitchen table?

Debbie KBarbara

I've had my kitchen table for over 20 years. It has good bones, just needs a make-over and I'm not sure how to do it. Should I take off the laminate or just sand it down?

Buy a quality paint at a paint store (not a big box store). I painted a laminate topped dresser 10+ years ago with Porter Paint that cost $60 a gal. and the paint has not scratched off even after 3 moves. If you take the laminate off (are you sure it's laminate or could it be veneer?) the wood underneath will be damaged. If it's veneer (thin wood) you could lightly sand but there's a chance you might sand through it.

Hi Kathy, just lightly sand it, and make sure it is clean and dry, paint it the color of your choice, another suggestion is chalk paint, it is a nice finish and is very forgiving.
