How do I paint woodwork and walls bright white?

If you have not painted the walls, etc for a while it may be best to paint a good primer first such as Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 and then your final coat of white latex, either flat, satin or semi-gloss, depending on what rooms you are painting. You will find this will give you a nice covering finish. When walls are painted white, you can accessorize with any color your heart desires. The primer will cover any prior marks before putting on your final cot. Use the flat or satin in bedrooms, living room and hallways and you could use the semi-gloss, which can be wiped more often, on the baseboards and frames. Happy New Year to you.

Hi Jaqueline, just make sure the wood smooth, you may have to sand rough spots or gouges, then clean and dry it, if you use chalk paint it is very forgiving, but it is also a little expensive, in lieu, you want to buy the least shiny latex paint, (Flat finish) and start at the tops then work your way down. Do one door jamb or frame or wall at a time, you may want to do the wood in a shade darker white or a very light gray just to retain definition and a slight contrast.

Great tips above. I have been using RustOleum enamel paint. It’s very durable but you can’t paint over it with chalk or latex paint.
