Floating Crate Bookshelf
Do you have some old wood crates laying around? (If not, you can buy them at any craft store, we did that for 2 of our crates)

Then here's a great tutorial that you can do in just a couple hours!
First, stain the crates if you desire. I love the dark walnut color, so I went ahead and stained the 2 crates I bought from the craft store.
Once dried, lay them out on the floor, arrange and rearrange them until you find the best design to fit your space and style. There's no right or wrong here, use as many or as little crates as you'd like, all different shapes and sizes too!
Once you have the design down, mark on your wall where you'd like the top crate to go. Since I wanted the rustic look, we didn't strive for perfection, we never used a tape measure or level. Only our trusty eye. Either use a stud finder or any method you usually use to find the studs. Mark them on the wall so you know when to use the appropriate screws. Our wood was thick so we used 2.5 inch screws. When attaching to hollow drywall, use toggle bolts. If the crate has gaps in between the slats, use a washer on the inside of the crate and stick the toggle bolt/screw through and screw to the wall. This adds a bit of an industrial look to it, which I love!
If there aren't gaps, drill the hole into the crate first, then screw to the wall. This will ensure the wood won't split.
Once you have them all hung, load them up with books and your favorite decor! Be sure not to make any one crate to heavy, they are wood crates after all! Enjoy!
