How do I go about painting our picket fence?

Our house is over 100 years old, but the picket fence has been replaced over the years. The current fence is faded, peeling and has a lot of green mold on it. Most of the fence is still in good repair, just needs a few board tightened or reattached.

A good cleaning with bleach is a good start to remove mold and mildew.Any peeling paint should be scraped off to keep your next coat of paint intact. I prefer oil based paints in most fences but your preference is up to you,just make sure it's exterior paint.

Yes, kill the mold, scrape the peeling & prime with a mold-killing exterior primer, like Kilz Mold Killer.
Then buy mold-killer additive for the new exterior paint & pour it into the paint.
