How can I put a floor down over tile?
I want to redo our basement bathroom from ugly yellow to something more modern. The tile floor is very small yellow tiles and I was wondering if it would be easier to just tile over it or wrip it up and put a new floor down. Thanks!!!
Always best to scrape up old tile and start fresh.
Remove the tile and start from scratch. Tile need a smooth and solid base to adhere. Thinset or tile mastic will not hold. Also the height would be increased.
Your best bet is to remove the old stuff first and start over otherwise the new floor would degrade rapidly and you’d have to rip both out.
You need to have a solid surface for your toilet to sit on otherwise it can rock loose and leak. Though more time, work, and money, I would suggest you remove the old and start from scratch.
Why not paint what you have?
There are a lot of articles on here about that. Many people paint bathroom tule. Just search.
