Hi mary, no reason why not! I would suggest you use a really tough primer though such as Kilz. If your floor boards have any finish left on them it would be smart to sand them down first so your primer really sticks. I would two coats of primer and at least two coats of pain as well before putting down your clear coat. I did a poly acrylic (four coats) on my floors though most people would suggest you use an oil based clear coat I found that the poly acrylic worked just fine, dried very quickly and wasn't near so stinky or toxic.
Hi Mary! Not a hard project, just work. You'll need to scrub and clean the wood to remove all dirt and debris, including where the boards butt up against each other. I scrubbed mine with a scrub brush on my hands and knees before I painted. I used a shop vac to vacuum. Then, using a paint intended for floors, I painted using a roller on a long handle, and a paint brush I painted the floor three times, following the directions for drying time. Then I applied a clear sealer intended for floors.
Sure, prep well. Clean with TSP. Sand off sheen and prime with Oil based primer, lightly sand again. Paint 2 coats of Oil based paint. The oil will give you the most durability and cut down on chipping and wear. Good luck, have fun.
