How can I make extra long shower curtains that don't look cheap?

Just had an independent contractor remodel my bathroomUnfortunately, he didn't ask me where l wanted my shower rod, he was over 6 ft tall and installed it really high. He attached it to the newly installed tile so it can't be lowered without breaking and retiling. My ( really expensive and brand new) shower curtain now hangs about 6" off the floor! Looks very awkward..... I can't sew on a border, it will look home made. I'd never find this same fabric! My next idea is to make extra long shower curtain rings to lower the level. It's a beach theme bathroom. Anyone out there have any ideas for extra long shower curtain rings that lcan make that don't look cheap? Thanks!

Don't know about rings, but what about adding fringe? Could look very custom, not home made.

could you use roping? loop over the rod into the slit in the curtain, then up and over the rod again

You could add the border at the top rather than the bottom. I'm thinking a textured solid or a color block look. Or use that high rod for a valance...not the most trendy but could be classy if not gathered and in a quality coordinating fabric. Then put the curtain on an added lower rod. Could add a wide vertical edge to match the bottom or top border....or the valance. Might be able to use a nautical rope/macrame look to lower the curtain...related to your beach theme. I agree with Kelli...any of these options could look very custom if sewn nicely.

You could use these curtain clips;take them apart between hook & clip add some matching chain then attach shower curtain it would make it hang lower https://www.wayfair.com/decor-pillows/hd0/clip-curtain-ring-l6262-k~bmet1010.html?refid=GX103455934843-BMET1010_10329690&device=c&ptid=331300145461&network=g&targetid=pla-331300145461&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=15546410&PiID%5B0%5D=10329690&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8K_oprjT3wIVtyCtBh2VogoLEAQYAiABEgIR-_D_BwE you can get bulk chain at any hardware store so you can cut how much you need yourself.

I know this isn't the question you asked...but I'd considered making a new cloth curtain, maybe using a good quality, new flat bedsheet. Towards the shower/tub side, use a liner with magnets (assuming the tub is metal. Use weights if it's not.) Those don't need to be floor length to work effectively. If you want to use your current curtain since it's new (I understand why you would), I think adding *contrasting* fabric to the top AND bottom would avoid a homemade look. (Even if you could find matching material, I agree tacking on 6" won't be a good look. Unless you are adding a ruffle there's no reason for the curtain to be seamed there.) Also if adding contrasting material, use French seams when sewing so the seams look good from both sides of the curtain. (Even a "non-homemade" expensive curtain with contrasting panels would have seams!)

  • Extra long shower curtains can be bought. Look for 108" long shower curtains.
